The Indian cricket team had beaten England by 66 runs in the first ODI but before the second match, Team India has suffered two major setbacks. In the first match, senior openers Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer were ruled out with injuries. Rohit is now out of the second ODI, while Iyer is out of the entire series.

Rohit Sharma was injured during the first ODI against England. In fact, in Mark Wood’s fast bowling, a ball hit Rohit in the elbow, after which Rohit was in pain and the medical staff had to come on the field. After that Rohit did not come on the field for fielding and was replaced by Suryakumar Yadav. Now Rohit Sharma will not be able to play in the second match. A veteran BCCI source said, “Even veteran opener Rohit Sharma will not take part in the next match.”

Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, will not be able to play further in the series due to a shoulder injury. Not only that, Iyer’s play in the first half of the IPL is being questioned. The incident happened in the eighth over of England’s innings. Shreyas, on the other hand, jumped on fast bowler Shardul Thakur’s bowling in an attempt to block a shot by Johnny Bairstow. The BCCI said, “Shreyas Iyer’s shoulder bone shifted while fielding in the eighth over. He has been taken for a scan.”

It may be mentioned that Iyer is the captain of Delhi Capitals in the IPL starting from April 9. Shreyas led Delhi Capitals to the final last year. It can now take at least six weeks for him to recover from his injury and at most if surgery has to be done.
