The statue of Mahatma Gandhi was vandalized by some rioters in Central Park in Davis, Northern California, USA. The statue was smashed to its knees. Gandhiji’s face was also damaged. He has been insulted in the US on the day of Mahatma Gandhi’s Nirvana. The statue, gifted by India, was unveiled in Davis three years ago. This has caused outrage among people of Indian descent living in the US.
The Government of India demanded action
The Indian government took serious note of the incident and condemned it and raised the issue with the US authorities. Demanded strict action against those responsible for this heinous incident. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Government of India condemns this heinous incident.
