Gujarat Chief Minister inaugurates Tana Riri festival at Vadanagar

Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Tana-Riri festival at Vadnagar and said that Tana and Riri worshipped music in land of Vadnagar and gifted to the world, a legacy of ragas and raginis.


Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel extended his new year greetings to all the artistes, art lovers and attendees of the Tana-Riri festival. He said, “I am feeling fortunate to be present for the occasion of the Tana-Riri festival in this historic land of Vadnagar, the hometown of our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, son of Gujarat and the pride of the entire world.”


He added that Vadnagar has preserved the rich history of Indian heritage for more than thousand years. This land is such that it nurtures the essence of dedication and service that has developed here since ancient times, he said.


On this occasion, the CM informed that the legendary artists Tana and Riri rendered the Raga Malhar and through their knowledge, brought rain to quench flames that tormented Tansen. Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has presented Gujarat as a role model of development in the world through his dedication towards development and public service, he further added.


Vadnagar has witnessed outstanding dedication, sacrifice, penance and patriotism from Tana-Riri to Hon’ble Shri Narendra Modi, he added. The CM said that we have envisioned development of ancient culture, art, literature, music, religious places in a timely manner. The tradition of honouring female classical singers-musicians with awards was initiated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who hails from Vadnagar, to develop and nurture this legacy.


He further informed that during Gujarat’s golden jubilee year-2010, in the memory of Tana-Riri, the Tana-Riri Award was initiated to honour female classical singers-musicians. Continuing this tradition, the Tana-Riri Award for the year 2023 was presented to Ms. Kankana Banerjee, Dr. Monika Shah and Ms. Aarti Ankalikar.


Talking about the development of Vadnagar, the CM said that this historic town is progressing towards development with various projects in education, health, tourism and transport under the Hon’ble PM’s leadership.


Speaking about the school where PM Shri Narendra Modi received his primary education, the CM said that the school is now being developed by state government as ‘Prerna School’. “We are implementing this innovative idea of Prerna School in other schools of the state as well,” he stated.


Prerna School aims to become a model and iconic school of the country through modern facilities and teaching methods. The CM said that the Hon’ble PM gifted a new GMERS Medical College-Hospital to Vadnagar in the year 2017.


He further said that the state government is fulfilling the responsibility of preserving and nurturing such art activities through rewards. Under the guidance and inspiration of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the state government has also established the Tana-Riri Performing Arts College in Vadnagar.

Vadnagar railway station has also been redeveloped, he said, adding that under the guidance of the PM, the country’s first archaeological experimental museum is also being setup here.


The Central Government and the State’s Tourism Department have taken up the project of Vadnagar Heritage Circuit at a cost of Rs.92 crore.


Apart from this, we have created the Vadnagar Master Plan by dividing the town into four zones for holistic and strategic development.


On this occasion, Shri Alok Kumar Pandey, Commissioner, Department of Youth Services and Cultural Activities, welcomed the dignitaries, artists and others attendees.

Sharda Patel, Unjha MLA Shri K K Patel, Kheralu MLA Shri Sardar Chaudhary, Former Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Rajni Patel, Principal Secretary of Department of Youth Services and Cultural Activities Shri Ashwani Kumar, Mehsana District Collector Shri M. Nagarajan, District Development Officer Dr. Om Prakash, District Superintendent of Police Shri H.L. Tyagi, noted artists Smt Anupama Bhagwat and Vidushi Verma, a large number of invited dignitaries and people of various villages were present on the occasion.
