KKR’s Varun Chakraborty’s negligence that BCCI is making a scapegoat

  • The Corona virus has entered the 12th season of the IPL, which has led to the suspension of the league. On Monday, it was revealed that two Kolkata Knight Riders players Varun Chakraborty and Sandeep Warrior Coro came positive. It has also been confirmed that the two have entered the bio-bubble in Ahmedabad. The Kolkata franchise has sent the two players separately in isolation and quarantined the remaining players under strict protocol till May 6.

The players will be tested every day and the match against Bangalore is likely to be played on May 7 only if all the members are negative. The management of the Kolkata team has argued that Varun went for a scan wearing a PPE kit but not following the SOP when returning to this position is a sign of negligence towards the safety of the players. According to the SOP, if a player leaves the bio-bubble, he has to complete the required quarantine seven days after his return. Under the rule, Hyderabad did not initially release Natarajan after he suffered a knee injury but later dropped him for the entire season.

According to unofficial reports, a player from another team (possibly Delhi Capitals) based in Ahmedabad has also tested positive for Corona but there is no confirmation of this. It is alleged that the negligence shown by the Kolkata team is responsible for the entry of the corona virus into the bio-bubble. On Wednesday, April 9, Kolkata spinner Varun Chakraborty went to a hospital in Ahmedabad for a knee scan and when he returned, he was admitted directly to the bio-bubble. Now the question is what was the medical officer doing at that time? Is BCCI making Varun a scapegoat?
