The Bombay High Court has dismissed a petition seeking a stay on the release of The Kashmir Files. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film is releasing in theaters on March 11. After the dismissal of the petition, the way for the release of the film has been cleared.
The story of The Kashmir Files is based on the expulsion of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley in the 1990s and the political climate of this period. The film stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Puneet Issar, Pallavi Joshi and Darshan Kumar in the lead roles.
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Bombay High Court against the film directed by Vivek Agnihotri, in which it was requested to stop the release, stating that the content of the film was against a particular community.
This petition was filed on behalf of Uttar Pradesh resident Intezar Hussain Syed. The petition claimed that the film’s trailer misrepresents the Muslim community and that certain scenes encourage community bitterness. The petition also called the film one-sided.
