AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) has undertaken a major initiative to drive the holistic growth of Gujarat’s film industry. GCCI has constituted its ‘Films Taskforce’ for the year 2026–27 and appointed acclaimed filmmaker and National Award winner Abhishek Jain as its Chairman. Following the announcement, the taskforce held its first review meeting at the GCCI headquarters in Ahmedabad under the chairmanship of Abhishek Jain, bringing together key representatives and stakeholders from the Gujarati film industry.
The maiden taskforce meeting, held on 26th September at GCCI, addressed critical operational and procedural challenges currently facing the regional film industry. Key deliberations focused on streamlining the Censor Board certification process, effectively implementing the state’s film subsidy framework, simplifying shooting permissions via the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL) single-window system, and reviewing service charges impacting production economics. Furthermore, discussions highlighted the need for expanding theatre infrastructure, enhancing film distribution and exhibition networks, resolving royalty issues, and developing a comprehensive, research-based database to document Gujarat’s film ecosystem for policy-making and strategic development.
Outlining the key priorities for the taskforce, Mr. Rajesh Gandhi added: “For 2026–27, GCCI will focus on five core priorities: strengthening the business ecosystem around cinema, enhancing local production and studio infrastructure, driving skill development for local talent and technicians, expanding market reach across global and OTT platforms, and leveraging Gujarat’s Cinematic Tourism Policy 2022–27 to position the state as a premier film destination.”
Further, Abhishek Jain said, “I feel it’s high time that be as an industry representing Gujarati language gather and voice out, our issues, show the strength of unity and work towards a progressive industry.”
The meeting witnessed active participation from key industry stalwarts, including Vaishal Shah, Darshan Trivedi, Jay Vyas, Krishnadev Yagnik, Manish Saini, Twinkle Vijaygiri, Jignesh Patel, Jagat Gandhi, Shailesh Dhameliya, Manoj Ahir, Sanjay Soni, Nilay Chotai, Tanya Parikh, Krunal Soni, Tanya Parikh, and Aashil Shah. Moving forward, the Films Taskforce will work in close coordination with government departments and industry stakeholders to submit actionable recommendations and implement practical solutions.
