More children die in South Korea than in the year 2020. This is the first time this has happened in the country. However, South Korea’s birth rate was already lower than the rest of the world. According to a BBC report, declining birth rates and declining population are having a detrimental effect on the country’s economy. Because of that, the new figures have raised concerns in South Korea. Decreasing the birth rate will reduce the number of working youth in the country.
In the year 2020, 2 lakh 75 thousand 800 children were born in South Korea. As of 2019, the figure is 10 percent lower. So in the year 2020, 3 lakh 7 thousand 764 people died in the country. The Home Ministry has called for a sweeping change in government policies following the figures. The lack of coordination in women’s office and life is also being cited as a major reason behind the decline in birth rates in South Korea. So some families avoid giving birth even for financial reasons.
A large number of women in South Korea struggle to strike a balance between work and other necessities of life. Hoon-u-kim is one of them. He is the eldest of four siblings. He dreamed of a big family for himself, but he had to face situations that were not conducive to settling a family in South Korea. She is now forced to rethink her decision to have children.
