In a country where less than 1% of unmarried and young women are educated and aware of their sexual wellness, Lovetreats.in is working towards building awareness in India. Around 53% of these women have so much in-depth fear and shame about sexuality that they are unsure of the severity of their sexual health problems and the need to visit a gynaecologist. Known as the country’s most popular sexual wellness website, Lovetreats.in has been paving the way through workshops and camps that provide much-needed information about sexual wellness to men and women.
Balaji T Vijayan, Founder Lovetreats.in, says, “Apart from improving sexual wellness through our products, we are also trying to work on the psyche of the Indians. We conduct workshops and camps across the country in environments which are familiar, comfortable and convenient to speak to men and women about their sexual health and the vitality of taking care of it. We also work with global programs like Love Matters India to engage in conversations on high quality sex education in the country. Our social media is also mirror to the values we want to reflect and the awareness we want to create.”
Unmarried, divorced, and young women are almost invisible even today where the domain of sexual and reproductive health and rights is concerned. Societal biases and the deplorable lens of looking at sexuality combined with the stigma and shame attached to it in general has led to women not prioritizing their sexual health. They have refrained from accessing services for eons and even today, in the 21st century, there are very few who can openly speak about their preferences and dislikes.
“Across many workshops and camps that we have conducted for women on sexual health, the one common thing we have noticed is the hesitation to speak up. Strong women who have stood their ground on so many fronts are shy to speak about their sexual health and it is shocking! We at Lovetreats.in are constantly working towards de-stigmatising this topic and helping them understand pleasure and the need to take it into their own control. While there is a long way to go, we can see the needle moving with time”, signed off Balaji.
