Count Your Blessings

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS! There is a lot of power hidden in these three words, prayer, spirit and courage. Today we are living in a time where we can see or hear a lot of negativity around us. You will find at least one in five, a person who is grieving or complaining. They might be unhappy with their home, family, society or government at large. 

Complaining or finding fault in everything is a sure sign of weakness. It’s also the easiest thing to do, if someone shies away from their responsibility, loses courage, or grumbles, it’s because they don’t have faith in the Lord. You especially can’t see God’s mercy upon you if you are going through a rough patch. Nonetheless what we need to remember is that just like happy moments, difficult times are also not here to stay. 

Take a look around. What exactly are you complaining for? Stand in front of the mirror. What is the complaint for? For a beautiful life? A roof to live under, food to eat, cohabitation and relationships to enjoy. What exactly are we lamenting about ?

Sadly, human beings are very selfish, greedy and ungrateful. And we’ve taken a lot of things for granted. As small as, even the ability to blink your eyelids, is a blessing. I’m not exaggerating, have you seen those who don’t have eyelids? Believe me there are people living with this condition.So if you decide to thank God for any one thing, this life will certainly be less for it. Which means that there is no limit to his blessings on us.

Goodness .. attracts goodness and evil attracts evil. This is the law of nature. Count your blessings and be grateful. You will definitely witness a surplus in it. When you look at the less fortunate people around you, it will make you realise how much grace the Lord has showered upon us.

A famous personality comes to my mind. Helen Keller- American author, political activist and lecturer. She was dumb, deaf and blind. There can’t be a greater example of Count your blessings. One of her many inspirational quotes which I like is this,“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.”

There is also a saying to remember that can lead us to positivity.“I was complaining about the shoes. But then I saw someone who didn’t have feet.”

In the end I would only like to say one thing. Appreciate what you have and how much you have. Be grateful for it. Who knows, you might crave for the same things tomorrow ?!
