Aman’s eyes widened, as words reached his ears from the half-open door of the doctor’s cabin.
“Sorry sister, Aman cannot be cured. The tumor is large, and as it increases in size, the pressure on the nearby veins will also be affected. His other parts of the body might stop working. Moreover, I’m sorry to say, but he may go into coma any time.”
After this heavy dose he didn’t have it in him to hear the latter half. Day and night anxiety and fear were gnawing his insides. A wife, a two year old kid, his future… so many questions .. but the answers? There was only a vacuum.
Out of the blue, Amar remembered his college friend Akash..he hadn’t met him for the last two years. Nonetheless is it difficult to find someone in this digital age? He found out the address and went to meet him.
Akash was astonished to see Aman after such a long time. He kept gapping at his friend.
Aman chuckled and asked,”Aren’t you happy to see me?”
Akash shook his head and replied,
“No, no. I’m just a little daz….”
Interrupting, Aman asked Akash another question,
“Have you married …?”
Akash lowered his gaze to the ground.
Aman spoke again “Dude, maybe even God wants to unite Akash with Dharti”
Akash was flabbergasted to hear this,
“What are you talking about? Are you out of your mind? Dharti is your wife!”
Aman immediately chimed in,
“Yes, but now I want her to be yours.”
Akash spoke angrily,
“You’ve truly lost it!”
As soon as he stopped talking, Aman just put his hand on Akash’s shoulder and said softly,
“I have brain tumor and there is no cure for it. Nevertheless, I want you to lighten the burden of my end time.”
On an impulse they embraced each other and cried profusely. Today Aman saw hope shining in his dense darkness and his features softened, as immense peace settled in his heart and soul.
