Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh – May 23, 2025:
Ahmedabad-based production house Serene Films has taken a significant step forward with the launch of its debut Hindi feature film, “Drop Out,” marked by an auspicious muhurat shot at the historic Government Inter College (GIC), Barabanki.
The ceremonial beginning was graced by notable dignitaries including acclaimed poet and social worker Shri Pradeep Sarang, Shri Radheyshyam (Principal, GIC Barabanki), Shri Sushil Drivedi (Lecturer), Shri Krishna Lal (College Office Assistant), Shri Asad Shajid (Fitness Mentor), and Shri Virendra Verma (Director, Harakh Farmers’ Producer Company). Their blessings lent a sense of purpose and positivity to what promises to be an emotionally resonant cinematic journey.
“Drop Out” is written and produced by Umashanker Yadav, who also stars in the lead role. The film marks his foray into cinema both behind and in front of the camera. Acclaimed filmmaker Omkar Pethkar directs the film while also penning the screenplay and dialogues.

The story revolves around a gifted yet financially challenged village boy who, unable to cope with the rigid demands of an unsuitable academic path, takes the bold step of dropping out. Through a journey of internal conflict, societal pressures, and mental health struggles, he eventually uncovers his true potential—thanks to the unwavering support of a female friend. At its core, the film highlights the silent battles faced by students, the stigma around academic failure, and the healing power of empathy and friendship.
The ensemble cast features a compelling mix of talent. Tanushka Sharma, a well-known digital influencer, makes her feature film debut in the female lead role. Veteran actors Rajendra Gupta and Mushtaq Khan lend gravitas to crucial characters. Rising theatre actor Uday Singh delivers a grounded performance that captures the essence of India’s heartland.
Indrajeet Kumar serves as the Director of Photography, bringing visual authenticity to the film’s rural setting, while Vivek Yadav takes on the role of Executive Producer and casting director, ensuring the film’s emotional and cultural integrity.
Slated for a tight ten-day shooting schedule, the film will feature the vibrant natural and cultural backdrops of Uttar Pradesh. It is being positioned as more than just a cinematic debut—it’s a call for empathy, mental health awareness, and redefining success beyond conventional academic routes.

On the occasion, Founder and Director Umashanker Yadav expressed heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, emphasizing the crucial role of community encouragement in nurturing meaningful, socially relevant cinema.
“Drop Out” is Serene Films’ first Hindi feature project, and it reflects the studio’s commitment to storytelling that inspires, educates, and resonates. The film offers a simple yet powerful message: sometimes, walking away is not giving up—it’s growing up.
